The town is Sanderson, not Anderson. It's the county seat of Terrell County, in the Big Bend country. The younger of the two men is Ben Kilpatrick, aka Blackie Kilpatrick or 'The Tall Texan.' The other man was known as Ed Beck, Ed Becker, Ed Walsh, Ed Welch, Old Beck, Ole Beck, Ole Becker, Ole Hobek, Ole Oldbeck, or Nick Grider--take your choice. Both men were killed by Wells, Fargo agent David Andrew Trousdale. Trousdale killed Kilpatrick by hitting him on the back of the head with an ice mallet--three times. Beck he shot from a range of about 10 feet with a Winchester M1910 carbine in .401 Winchester Automatic caliber, which was a rimless .38-40. The gun was brought aboard the Wells, Fargo car by Ben Kilpatrick. The attempted robbery, which began when Ben & Beck entered the locomotive of Galveston, Harrisburg & San Antonio #9 at the Dryden water tower, took place 13 March 1912. Ben & 'Beck' are buried in Sanderson under a stone reading 'Trainrobbers. Killed while robbing the GH&SA #9 at Baxter's Curve, Terrell County, March 13, 1912.'
